1847 The Cartier story begins in 1847. The company was founded in Paris in this year by Louis-Francois Cartier. Initially the company specialised in jewelry and became a supplier to the court of Napoleon III - (cartier womens watch).
1874 Running of the now successful Cartier company was taken over by Louis-Francois's son, Alfred. This resulted in more emphasis on the watch side of the business. Louis-Francois remained involved and had responsibility for the original Paris branch whilst his son expanded the business elsewhere.
